4 Slow Down and Breathe Deep

Confession - I have never taken a yoga class. So when my friend Lindsay asked if I wanted to participate in a Breathe Deep Challenge I wasn't really sure if I knew how to participate. I mean obviously I know how to breathe but do I do this when I am alone or with others around? At night? Eyes opened or closed? Legs crossed or laying down?

Deep breathing is a great calming technique that can not only help to reduce stress but also can improve concentration and help you sleep better. I am choosing to breathe deep at the end of the day when I want to unwind but have a million things going through my head. Brenna picked right after the kids were dropped off at school and Lori chose first thing in the morning. If I was smart I would have done it while I sat in traffic this morning for over 30 minutes.

What am I hoping to accomplish by participating?

I just want to make sure I take 5 minutes out of each day to focus on nothing but calming thoughts. I want to see if this one small act can have an impact on my overall mood and sleep habits.  I am also hoping to learn a lot from the awesome ladies who are participating. Jenny already shared her 6 Word Memoir which is what I will be thinking about tonight while I am breathing deep.

  1. When I remember to breathe deep, it really does help. I am doing this challenge as well, but have to admit I have not been good about doing it every day. The suggestion to pick a time of day is great! I would love to do it first thing in the morning, but realistically I don't think that will work. So next best for me is at the end of the day when the kids are in bed. Maybe I can get a good night's sleep!

  2. I did it as I was laying in bed last night Kristina and I fell asleep so fast and felt very rested!

  3. What a good idea! I tend to only do the deep breathing thing when I'm angry "Good air in, angry breath out." I love the idea of making this a regular thing.
