0 Zzzzzzzz (or lack there of)

Sometime I think I should Google 'sleep' to find out what it means. I am a night owl NOT a morning person. This typically means I am up late but because I am a Mom and I work I am up early. On a typical day I go to bed at midnight, but sometimes it is later. I am up before 7 each day (varies depending on when B wakes up). The amount of sleep that you require really varies by person but on average it is recommended that you get 8 hours of deep sleep. I get 6, maybe 7. I know that doesn't sound all that bad as it is only 1 or 2 hours less than what is required but it is bad. I can feel that it is bad. My sleep habits have gotten worse in the last few months and I believe this has played a part in my overall blahness (I'm TM'ing that).

Tips to getting the best sleep you can
* Don't drink caffeine close to when you want to go to bed.
* Let your mind unwind by reading or meditating.
* Don't go from working or watching TV straight to bed. You know how you have a bedtime routine for your kids? Create one for yourself!
* Ditch the chemicals in your bed. Get an organic mattress that is free from chemical flame retardants and buy organic sheets and pillows (don't get down pillows...those poor ducks).
* Watch the clock! Know what time you want need to go to bed and stick to it.
* Make your bedroom work for you. To me that means a comfortable bed and almost no light. Even the little light on the cable box bugs the hell out of me if it is left on!
* Don't eat sugar at night....sugar crash is a terrible thing and it could result in you being tired early and then waking up and not being able to get back to sleep.
* If you do wake up and can't get back to sleep do something that requires minimal light and effort. Don't watch TV!
